The game is an absolute anomaly, an out -of-place artifact. It simultaneously feels like it's from 2008, 2023, and 3030.
It's a baffling artifact of a game. There's a whole tapestry of wild prog rock sci-fi worldbuilding going on here, under a veneer of abrasive meme-laden dialogue and amateur voice actors swearing a lot.
The vibe I'm getting from this game is like someone took Coheed & Cambria's entire discography, chemically rendered it down into an inky and incredibly illegal chemical compound and then injected it directly behind my eyes. It is... bracing.
This rips so hard, i'm so stoked to see people are still making the kinda stuff you would find on newgrounds like 20 years ago
I love it, this is the DGAF insanity I want from my fringe amateur primitivist indie scene
It's like if during a tabletop RPG session through Skype a drunk GM was trying really hard, through their cheap headset, to introduce everyone to the custom system they created after an acid trip
This game is causing me intense psychic damage and I think it might be fully intentional.
I'm still processing that goddamn intro. One question: What?

As you can see from the screenshots, Killing Machine Movement is a 2D side on shooter and platformer with immersive RPG elements and emergent gameplay. Akin to Soldat and Deus Ex.
Keep in mind, when you die on a level in this current version, you must begin the level again from the start. This may be frustrating for players who aren't prepared for this aspect.
You can have conversations with certain NPCs. When the time comes for you to choose a dialogue option, select it with your mouse and left click.
The game is long and begins at a slow gradual pace before increasing in difficulty.
This game is about listening and filling in the gaps by yourself. It won't hold your hand. Pay attention.

Here ya go you massive NERD! Nah nah. Welcome, you intellectual. Guess what. Turns out Movement is part pretentious intellectual experiment, part obnoxious joke. And that joke is: excess. Excess in convolution. Whether that be unnecessary gameplay mechanics, obtuse story, impenetrable detail and an overall sense of confusion. Of course it pains us to damage the joke by telling you why it's 'funny' but we mention it to point out the funniest interferences in connecting with an audience who would like enough aspects of the game to like it.
What does this game look like from the first seconds? The kindest way to put it would be that it looks like an old school flash game. Dumb but fun. Fast paced shooting. Players who go in expecting that, may get sidetracked and deflated coming face to face with a slow paced dialogue heavy world building drudge. And those who would like slow paced dialogue heavy world building wouldn't come near the game, because on the surface, it looks like a dumb but fun fast paced shooting old school flash game. lol
Here and here are some details about the design process and mission statement.
There's also some artistic integrity here too. Confusion is part of the experience. We really want to refrain from holding the player's hand as much as possible. Your time might not be respected, but your ability to infer information is.
One part of the Movement experience
One of the main reasons why...

About the game
Movement started in 2007. We wanted a challenging platform game where a skilled player could move in unusual ways. We had big plans and intentionally let the feature creep flow.
What we have ended up with is a huge game with a ridiculous amount of features. Many guns, many spells, many augments, different types of grenade, a huge story, tons of voice actors, loads of cutscenes, an IRC client, different game modes, loads of levels, secrets, etc, etc.
You have spells like teleport, fly and etherialise (which lets you can move through walls). We kept adding guns to your arsenal. We just kept going but our plans kept growing too.
This game needed a story, so in 2008 we brought on board our writer and director. We knew he would go overboard with a long and over the top ambitious story. It took four hours to write the initial script, but even at that time it was clear that its four acts equalled the ambition of the project. With him on board the game gained an atmosphere, an art direction and a ton of cutscenes. The story became a prequel to an old game KILLING MACHINE.
But as such a huge project there was lot of work. The years went on and this work became sporadic.
Sadly one of our two developers died at the age of 27 during this time. He was the creator of the original KILLING MACHINE, the person who would have played this game the most. Development slowed to a halt after this. This game is dedicated to him.
A few years later in 2021, we dusted this project off. So much work had been sunk into it already. We decided one way or another we would get it completed. Scoped back to two acts from the original four, it was possible. The end was in sight. We said give it one year and release whatever state it is in.
Two years later, in 2023, we finally finished and released the game, Overdue on every deadline, but the wait is over. Greatest is the world!

So freaking epic, dude!
Thank you! Argh those tough tutorials! And yes, players! The most important key you need to remember is 1 or [ for health!
Thanks for taking part in the Movement experience! : D
Hugely appreciated. You had me laughing too lol. Yeah the confusion is part of the experience. Little bits come together slowly. Thanks for showcasing all the way up to 5. I've said it before, that Grenade Tutorial is our least favourite level in the game. We'll change that sooner than later. Yeah, man if you did have fun with it, the action does pick up. Though watch out. Canyon is a 2 part level. And the second part is one of us developers' 2nd least favourite level lol. Thanks so much again for all that time you put into it and for giving it a proper look. Now onto Robotron! lol : p
I streamed a bit of this game and I was left utterly speechless for a majority of it... First reason was how much passion and dedication you had for this game, and the fact that I had no idea wtf was going on lol...
There is a LOT to take in, which is my only issue, alongside the weird keybindings. Other than that it reminds me a lot of the old newgrounds flash games, on crack.
I may continue this in the future, unsure when but I need a breather lmao...
so good! Soooo GOOD! TBH, so impressive how far you were able to go without tutorials (kinda glad you skipped them since they're very imperfect). No idea how you stumbled upon [ for health refill and ] for mana. Your feelings on the playthrough would've probably felt a lot different if you couldn't do that. Was hoping you'd stumble upon shift for menu and then you can rebind most of the keys (hover over an icon and hit the key you want) and do most stuff really. Also nice you chose which dialogue option you wanted with Karnage Man with the mouse. Some people don't know that you can do that. But that's our fault.
Thanks for making it to village. It's really helpful to see where we need to make things clearer for the player. Honestly did not anticipate that the optional computer would mislead people from the main objective. We've already solutions in mind for so much of this if demand ever grows enough for a patch fix update.
You got it though and the tone. "WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS?!" So good! We've got some explanation from one of the devs about the ott amount to take in, but warning, it's reeeeaaaaaalllly wanky and pretentious.
Thanks so much again for playing! Really enjoyed it. And you did seriously well despite encountering its flaws. MORE! MORE! MORE! Level 5! Level 5! Level 5!
Hey Kador,
I streamed my playthrough of your game (the video has chapters). Check it out:
I thought about it as I was playing it but I didn't know how to articulate it: This is the kind of game that becomes a cult classic. Some jank here and there but a lot of passion and cool gameplay ideas. I've been thinking about going back and playing it some more and I think when I get some time I definitely will. It was great to have hatter on the stream but it will be great to experience it on my own. Thanks for sharing this cool as game with me and I hope we can get more people to experience it!
Hey, just posted about your channel too! https://itch.io/t/5560170/subscribe-and-submit-your-itch-games-to-arlucgames-you...
That's really cool you put it that way. Kind of the niche demographic we'd welcome actually lol, those willing to endure past the modern standard first impression to get to the depth. And those who'd want a 2D Deus Ex XD. And those who wanna cheap laugh : p. Yeah, I'm really interested to hear what the furthest level people get to is.
I'll keep up to date with the channel. I really like the commentary/interview concept. It was really fun to be on the episode, I had a great time. Thanks again πππ. Here's to a top 50 compilation video eventually.
Too difficult for me :D But I featured it on my YouTube channel.
Just saw it! Thank you so much!! π π π
It takes a while for players to remember to use [ or 1 to refill health. And also to use the mouse to look around while moving.
We're impressed though. You used the shift key to open the menu and change weapons. And you were able to boost through the tutorial despite us not repositioning the player away from the walls which we should have done. (It's harder to boost when you are next to a wall. That's totally our fault).
Thanks again! π
Ayup, looking crazy.
have you played this game looks crazy
