PRE OCTOBER RELEASE TEXT:

---

Hey! Did you like Killing Machine Movement? What? No?! What do you mean? Why not? Well, you’re going to love this. And I guess that’s regardless of your answer. As co-developer Marcus Cass mentioned, “You should be making Robotron instead of Movement. It’s actually fun.”

If you’re a regular viewer/listener of our Killing Machine Movement letsplay/DVD commentary, you may have heard on the occasional episode that another game called Robotron is in development. It’s true! And as mentioned in the episodes, the game has been hovering around the 90% completion point for months. Well, we’ve decided to finish the final stretch before the end of October this year!

And as Marcus Cass has said, Robotron does indeed prove to be the more fun game. Taking place in the Rocketron universe, Robotron was always supposed to be tongue-in-cheek, off-the-wall silly comedy tone wise while Killing Machine Movement was always meant to take itself a little more seriously in comparison. But that may leave the impression that Robotron has any story at all. No. This is pure pick-up-and-play fun where you can instantly understand what to do and how to play. There is only WASD for movement and arrow keys for a total of eight shooting directions. (Players with N key rollover will have an advantage.) That isn’t to say that there aren’t any gameplay methods to intuitively learn or that there isn’t any growth to feel along the way. As you – getting more addicted – return again and again for just one more attempt at beating your high score and progressing to the next wave, you’ll notice gradual and satisfying improvement in your approach to gameplay.

In its core mode, Robotron is suspiciously inspired by the classic Robotron 2084 game… But faster! Stage transitions and restarts are instant. When you die, you don’t have to start the level again. Though there is a lives system. Movement is smooth and fluid. The enemies are modeled on the original 2084 game’s enemies but behave differently – again, faster. And all of your progress will be kept on our online score leaderboard for all to see. As of writing, your challenge is to beat my 100k score to Level 26.

Unlike Killing Machine Movement, Robotron was built in Construct as opposed to MultiMediaFusion. What’s on offer is a wealth of satisfying audio layering and particle effects which adds to the intensity of speedy reaction battles. An original pumpin' sci-fi soundtrack will also accompany the game.

In addition to the default stage progression mode, the game boasts different gameplay styles also. When begun in 2009, Robotron was originally supposed to have over 20 different game modes of different genres as well as multiple branching ways to unlock them. Since then, ‘UFO 50’ has done that : (. So, we’re going to just release the levels of the current styles which we have so far made.

There is not too much left to go, mostly a few bug fixes. But as it stands, Robotron plays very well and is more accessible than both Rokcetron and Killing Machine Movement.

Look forward to updates as they emerge.

THIS GAME WILL BE RELEASED IN WHATEVER STATE IT REMAINS BY OCTOBER 2025 FOR FREE REGARDLESS

Thanks for sharing! Robotron 2084 was one of my formative games. I especially like all the weapon powerups and how they combine.

Trying to play on Linux, Proton (all versions) added some nasty input lag, wine-cachyos was somewhat better but I still could only really play the campaign levels rather than arcade mode.

Thanks so much for letting us know! Tbh, we’re so surprised that it ran effectively at all on those OS. For the next game in production and onwards, we’ll definitely consider more universalisable compatibility with other OS. One of us is wondering how much of that input lag was down to the intended effect of a certain leaf enemy catching you in their smoke. :p

Jim’s making some progress 😆

This is nuts! How does it feel? That is legitmately realllly good. It actually took me quite a while to move beyond 18 and 19 into the 20s. But once I was able to, I was then more or less able to get to the 20s consistently. And then at that point, you are pro. That's crazy.

Yeah, on my first try I thought it was impossible😁

Whoah! Just realised you’ve broken into the 20s! That’s so impressive. Welcome to the big leagues. B ) We need to think of a prize to give you for your next milestone. Aside from the skills that got you here, you’ve probably guessed that the next milestone will also be dependent on a lot of RNG lol. Wonder how you’ve done on the other modes…

The later part of your playing there was on point! Thanks for the video. I think you could get to stage 14 and beat Jim Zark.
